Misunderstanding (Kanato x Reader) One-Shot RQ

"What?"

You were sitting in a restaurant, out to dinner with your best friend to celebrate your birthday. Your friend, Kanato, had been by your side for a few years now, and while he was a little tough at times, you knew you could always count on him. You knew him better than anyone else, and could always tell what he was thinking. Well, at least you thought you could. At the moment, you were having second thoughts.

"I asked if you wanted to go out with me," Kanato restated, giving you a blank stare and rubbing his baggy, tired eyes.

Your finger started lightly scratching your fork, trying to ease your anxiety. No one had ever asked you out before, and to be honest, you weren't sure if anyone ever would. The thought of you and Kanato being a couple was overwhelming. But at the same time, it was a good overwhelming. True, for the 2 years you had known him, you never even thought about being his girlfriend. However, now that the time had come, your brain seemed to be smacked with all these ideas at once. You wanted to get butterflies when you saw him. You wanted to cuddle at night with him and his teddy. You wanted to hold hands as you walked down the street. You wanted to call him your "boyfriend".

You wanted to say "yes".

After racking your brain trying to figure out what to do, you finally made up your mind. Unfortunately, you had been thinking and acting uncomfortable for some time now, and Kanato noticed. He stood up from the table, slamming his hands down in the process, and lost that short-temper of his you knew he had.

"I never should've asked you!!! I knew you would be a bitch about it!!! Just forget I ever asked, because, come to think of it, I don't want to see your face again!! Don't come near my house, don't come near my brothers, and especially don't come near me!!!! I swear if I see you again I will personally suck every last drop of blood from your stupid body and watch as you die a slow and painful death!!! And I will enjoy every last fucking second of it. Why don't you just go to hell, (Y/n)!!! While you're at it, why don't you-"

You stared in shock as he kept ranting and ranting about "how sick" you make him and why he ever liked a "bitch like you". Looking out of the corner of your eyes, you saw the whole restaurant staring at the two of you. Kanato sure knew how to make a scene. You knew he didn't mean what he said; whenever he gets upset, it seems like his brain shuts off and he starts spewing whatever insult comes out of his mouth first. Regardless, he was still starting to annoy you. After fruitless attempts at calling his name, trying to get his attention to calm him down, you had had enough. Finally, you got up yourself, slapped him as hard as you could to snap him out of it, and grabbed his wrist.

"C'mon, I'm bringing you home," you forced through gritted teeth, dragging him out of the restaurant.

The car ride was absolutely silent. You didn't even turn the radio on in fear a love song would come on and make Kanato freak out again. You pulled up to his mansion and slowly put the car in park, taking the key out of the ignition. You both sat there, waiting for someone to say something.

Finally, you leaned over to the passenger seat and gave him a tender but quick kiss. His purple eyes widened and he whipped his head towards you, completely lost at what just happened.

"I-I...but you were...and then I...and the yelling...and-and-" You put your finger to his lips to silent his incessant stammering, and began talking yourself.

"Kanato, let me tell you something. You need to learn to have patience. If you had waited one more second at the restaurant, you would've known that I was going to say 'yes' to being your girlfriend. But instead you flip out like a little kid and start throwing insults in every direction. I know you didn't mean what you said, but that doesn't mean it didn't hurt. I really like you, and I really want to be your girlfriend if the offer still stands. But really, you have to wait for me to give you an answer before just assuming the worst. Do you think you could do that for me?"

Kanato just looks at you. He doesn’t say it, but you can see it in his eyes; he didn’t mean what he said to you, and he’s more sorry than you could ever know. Knowing him, though, you know he won’t say that out loud. You’ll just have to be glad that those beautiful lavender eyes of his can’t hide his true feelings.
Apparently snapping out of his gaze, he nods vigorously and zooms out of the car. You turn around to see your door being opened for you, and you gladly take the hand that is offered. You and Kanato hold hands all the way up to the big doors. He stops for a second, and turns around with a devilish smile. "You're sleeping over tonight."

Your face heats up as you get whipped into the house and upstairs into his bedroom. Once he gets inside and shuts the door, he notices how red your face is. He sighs, and says, "Don't worry; we're just going to cuddle. I won't do anything." After letting out the breath you were holding in, you climb into bed and await Kanato.

Unbeknownst to you, Kanato smirks to himself as he walks to get into bed himself, whispering, "At least, not while your awake."

You snuggle into Kanato, noticing that he wasn't sleeping with his teddy tonight. A goofy smile spreading across your face, you think happily, 'I guess he's found a new cuddle buddy.'

"KANATO WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!? YOU SAID YOU WOULDN'T!!!!"

Kanato peeks his head in the bathroom and smiles at his work, as you begin frantically poking and cleaning the two little bite marks on your neck.
